Best bar inventory apps: what operators say
A side-by-side look at the bar inventory apps in our directory. Pricing comes from our listings, so check each vendor for current rates. The operator comments are short paraphrases or brief quotes from public Reddit threads, and each one links to its source. We don't invent opinions: if we found no comment for an app, we say so. Backbar
Bar inventory and ordering software with a free tier aimed at bar teams.
Pricing: Free tier; paid upgrades
What operators say
- A bar manager calls Backbar "great" and notes "incredibly it's free", but says the free version doesn't connect to their POS (Harbortouch/Shift4), so they have to type in sales and build reports by hand. (r/BarOwners: Any experience using inventory apps?)
- One operator found Backbar "very buggy" with poor support and says it once deleted their database. Another in the same thread says its Toast integration "has been great" and support has been solid. (r/ToastPOS: Current State of Inventory Software)
From the BarStack team
A bar manager on our team uses Backbar and agrees with the operators above. The big win is that it's free. The main drawback is manual entry, such as typing in invoices, which they work around with their own automation.
WISK
Bar and restaurant inventory with Bluetooth scale support, ordering and invoice scanning.
Pricing: Subscription tiers
What operators say
- An owner of an 800-bottle bar paid about $4,000 for WISK to load their inventory and recipes. They use the Bluetooth scale with sequential weighing and par-based ordering, and say it exposed a staff leak and has paid for itself many times over. (r/BarOwners: Digital vs. Manual inventory?)
- A bartender calls WISK "probably the best one I've ever used" and points to the phone-camera barcode scanning and the accurate Bluetooth scale. (r/bartenders: Looking for a new bar inventory software)
Partender
Fast bar inventory app using a slider to estimate partial bottles.
Pricing: See website
What operators say
- "Partender is pretty basic and useful if you use it right." (r/bartenders: Looking for a new bar inventory software)
Craftable
Hospitality back-office suite for inventory, purchasing, accounting and bar management.
Pricing: Quote-based
What operators say
- A bar owner uses Craftable (formerly Bevager) for inventory and "love[s] it", highlighting the Fintech invoice integration and invoice scanning. (r/BarOwners: What additional software should we be utilizing?)
- Bevager (now Craftable) is "dope, makes ordering easier, integrates into your POS if you want." (r/bartenders: Looking for a new bar inventory software)
- A Toast user calls Bevager "expensive and complex but great support", noting it has no autopar and only a once-a-day sync from Toast. (r/ToastPOS: Current State of Inventory Software)
MarketMan
Restaurant inventory, purchasing and supplier management in the cloud.
Pricing: Subscription tiers
What operators say
- A café owner who chose MarketMan regrets it. They found it very hard to set up and train on, and disliked that anyone with a login could see labor, sales and profit data. (r/restaurantowners: Xtrachef, Craftable or Marketman?)
- A restaurant bookkeeper reports that MarketMan's offline mode didn't work in their walk-ins, which forced them back to handwritten counts. (r/Restaurant_Managers: Inventory Management Platforms)
xtraCHEF by Toast
Invoice processing, recipe costing and food/beverage cost management, now part of Toast.
Pricing: See website
What operators say
- Several commenters say to avoid xtraCHEF ("Support is garbage") and recommend MarginEdge or R365 instead. (r/restaurantowners: Xtrachef, Craftable or Marketman?)
BevSpot
Beverage inventory, ordering and cost analytics platform for bars and restaurants.
Pricing: See website
